Arrival Day

Today you should plan to arrive in Vienna and check into our hotel.

Day 2
Vienna

We will begin our day with a walking tour of the city at 10am. This will include a visit to St. Stephen’s Cathedral, Austria’s most prominent national symbol. This magnificent cathedral is known for its intricately tiled roof and its nearly 500- foot-tall South Tower, which provides amazing views of the entire city. The rest of the afternoon is free and then we will sit down for a welcome dinner at 6pm.

Day 3
Mozart

Lecture 1, 9-10:15am

At 11am we will meet in the lobby and walk to the Mozarthaus, the residence of Mozart from 1784 to 1787. The afternoon is free. This evening we will attend a classical concert in the church of St Anne’s.

Day 4
Esterhazy Palace

Today we will take a day trip to Fertöd, Hungary and Esterhazy Palace. The palace is one of the most beautiful baroque palaces in Austria and presents a fascinating view of the resplendent life once lived. We will also spend some time exploring the local town of Fertöd.

Day 5
Beethoven

Lecture 2, 9-10:15am

Today we will visit the Beethovenhaus in the Heiligenstadt district. Afterward we will have lunch in a local heurige, Weingut Meyer am Pfarrplatz.

Haydn

Lecture 3, 9-10:15am

Today we will visit the Haydnhaus in Gumpendorf. The afternoon is free. In the evening we will head over to the Prater, for a ride on the Giant Ferris Wheel and have some time in the surrounding area.

Day 9
Kunsthistorisches Museum

Lecture 4, 9-10:15am

Experience one of the world’s foremost museums! Let yourself be enchanted by works spanning five millennia, from Ancient Egypt to the modern era. Experience unique major works by Dürer, Raphael, Titian, and Velázquez as well as the world’s largest collection of Bruegel paintings.

Day 10
Vienna Opera House & Musikverein

Lecture 5, 9-10:15am

After lecture, we will take a tour of the Vienna State Opera. The Vienna State Opera is an opera house – and opera company – with a history dating back to the mid-19th century. After lunch on your own, we will walk over to the Musikverein. It is the home of the Vienna Philharmonic. The Great Hall, due to its highly regarded acoustics, is considered one of the finest concert halls in the world.

Day 11
Collection of Musical Instruments at the KHM & Schubert

Lecture 6, 9-10:15am

At 11am we will meet in the lobby and head over to see one of finest instrument collections in the world. Lunch is on your own.

We will then meet at 3pm to head over to the childhood home of Franz Schubert.

Day 12
Schönbrunn Palace & Cooking Class

Today we will visit Schönbrunn palace and gardens. In the palace the residential and state rooms with their original furnishings and decorations convey an authentic impression of the imperial lifestyle. The park and gardens surrounding the palace make Schönbrunn in a unique synthesis of Baroque art as well as providing a convenient and highly popular recreational area for Vienna’s population.

In the afternoon we will attend a cooking class where you will learn how to cook the Austrian Strudel.

Day 13
The Belvedere Museum

Lecture 7, 9-10:15am

Today we will visit the Belvedere museum, which is located on the upper floor of The Belvedere Palace.

Day 15
Salzburg

Today after breakfast we will take a train journey and leave Vienna and travel to Salzburg.

In the late afternoon, we will take a tour of Salzburg after breakfast and visit some of the important historical locations of the city. We will conclude with a visit, the Hohensalzburg Fortress, which sits on top a hill overlooking the city.

Day 16
Mozart

Lecture 8, 9-10:15am

Today will be all about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Firstly, we will visit his birthplace where we will learn about the early life of the composer, his first musical instruments, his friends, and his passionate interest in opera. Later in the day we will visit his place of residence in Salzburg.

Day 17
The Sound of Music

Lecture 9, 9-10:15am

The hills are alive with the sound of music.” Yes, today you will embark on a Sound of Music tour, visiting various filming locations including the gazebo where “Sixteen going on Seventeen” was filmed and other famous locations. Later, there will be some time to explore and find that last minute souvenir.

Vienna

After breakfast today we will return by train to Vienna. We will have a farewell dinner at 6pm.

Day 20
Departure Day

Today we will say our farewells, check out by 11am, and return to the United States.
