Karibu! Welcome to your dream retreat in Tanzania, Africa.

An independent nation since 1961, Tanzania is the quintessential African adventure and culture destination. Even if you think that you don’t know where this breathtaking country is on a map, you know about its spectacular topography and wildlife.

Here are some of the retreat highlights:

Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Crater- A Unesco World Heritage Site, Ngorongoro Crater is home to 7,000 wildebeest, 6,000 Black spotted Hyenas, 4,000 zebras, 3,000 Elands, 3,000 Gazelles, 300 Elephants, 30 critically endangered black Rhinos and many small animals like Kobs, Antelopes, Jackals, and Hippos. We will spend a day here on safari observing the dramatic habitat of these amazing beasts. If we get lucky, we will spot Simba! Simba is the Swahili word for lion and there are only around 55 left in the conservation area. Check out this video for a quick tour of the crater. 10 Earth’s Most Spectacular Places – Ngorongoro Crater – Tanzania

A Yoga Shala in the Conservations Area- Only in a yoga teacher’s dreams could this happen, and yet it is happening. A full day of hiking, exploring, and yoga.

Culture– The reason that we plan the exotic retreats for you. Few other yoga retreats introduce you to local culture as we do. Om Sunshine Yoga and Stone & Compass put a lot of research and thought into the places that we travel. Blending cultural experiences into the itinerary is imperative to our goals of connecting the world.
You are going to spend time with 2 different Tanzanian tribes, the Massai and the Chagga. The Maasai are nomadic people who herd and breed cattle and are known for their lively cultural dance, colorful clothing, and beadwork. The Chagga still live in an authentic tribal village. We will visit one of their coffee farms and learn about their traditions first-hand.

Waterfalls- At Om Sunshine Yoga we have been chasing waterfalls for 7 years. 8 states and 8 countries later, we will visit some of the highest and most beautiful waterfalls in the world.

Chemka Hot Springs- The springs are not actually hot but are the perfect temperature to warm your body at this hidden slice of paradise. Bring your swimsuit, this is going to be a day to remember.

Mt Kilimanjaro- the African continent’s highest peak at 5,895 meters (19,340 feet). The majestic mountain is a snow-capped volcano. While some runners enjoy the extreme trail running experience, we are going to enjoy a low-level hike at the mountain.

Woven into each day’s adventure will be yoga and meditation. What good is a bucket list vacation if you don’t take the time to pause and sit in the moment, absorbing the wonders that surround you? All yoga sessions are accessible for all levels of experience.

I love sharing the joy of yoga with others and helping them on their journey towards living a healthier and happier life.
