Day 1
Departure

Depart Chicago for Dublin

Day 2
Arrival

Land in Dublin, Airport pick-up, Program Orientation & Explore Dublin

  • Pick-up from Dublin International Airport after your overnight flight and transfer to your accommodations to drop off your bags
  • Welcome Orientation from the Program Team on Culture, Health & Safety in Ireland
  • Lunch followed by a guided walking tour of Dublin including St. Patrick’s Cathedral
  • Welcome dinner with musical performance and dancing in the Belvedere Hotel. This spectacular show will give you a flavor of the different styles of Irish Dance from ‘Sean Nos’ translating as ‘Old Style’ to Modern. The show features a cast of dancers whose credits include world famous shows such as, Riverdance and Lord of the Dance.
Day 3
Excursion
  • Learn about history and culture on an excursion to the Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre
  • Experience an enchanting evening of Irish folklore and storytelling in the award winning Stag’s Head Pub with dinner.
Day 4
Avoca Wool Mill
  • Tour the Avoca Wool mill to see first-hand where throws, blankets, scarves, and clothing are created.
  • Irish dancing and music lessons
Day 5
Clinical Experiences
  • Visit with a local clinic or facility such as Beacon Hospital Speech and Language Therapy Department learning about their services and specialities in LSVT-Loud, cognitive retraining, and brain injury programs
  • Engage in dialogue with students and faculty at a local university
  • End the day with a team reflection and debrief
Day 6
Travel to Northern Ireland
  • Pack up and head to Belfast, Northern Ireland’s capital, this morning.
  • Visit UNESCO site Giant’s Causeway
  • In the afternoon, venture out on a guided sightseeing tour of Belfast that includes Donegall Square and Belfast Castle
  • Dinner at a local pub
Day 7
Edinburgh

Fly to Edinburgh, explore the city

  • Arrive in Edinburgh and check in to your hotel for the next few days.
  • Connect with a local organization such as the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists to learn more about speech therapy in Scotland and hear from a guest speaker
  • Afternoon guided tour of Edinburgh, including National Library of Scotland
  • Taste of Scotland dinner and show
Day 8
The New Struan School and Edinburgh Castle
  • Meet with a local organization to learn more about autism in the country, services provided, and spend time at a local school for children with disabilities such as The New Struan School
  • Walk up the Royal Mile and tour Edinburgh Castle today.
  • Try your hand and lungs at learning to play the bagpipes before you fly back to the US
Day 9
Scottish Highlands Day Trip
  • Head out for a day trip to the Scottish Highlands where you’ll see Glencoe, Cairngorms National Park, and Fort Augustus
  • Cruise the Loch Ness and keep an eye out for the legendary monster
  • Visit Ghillie Dhu in Edinburgh for a live music performance
  • Farewell dinner as a group!
