Week 1
Sofia, Bulgaria

Meet with Sopharma
Practical work/experience shadowing all weekdays at Sopharma

Historical/cultural/graffiti tour in Sofia
Meet with Sofia Medical University to discuss pharmacy education in Bulgaria and natural herb medicinal properties/uses

Week 2
Stolat/Sevlievo, Bulgaria

Work with the Hospital in Sevlievo

Example Schedule:

  • Mon/Wed: rounding with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members
  • Tu/Thu AM: with pharmacy team
  • Tu PM/Thu PM/Fri all day: with clinical trials team
Week 3
Stolat/Sevlievo, Bulgaria

Day 1: Work with Sevlievo Municipality on implementing plans for the new Stone & Compass clinic that will be in Sevlievo and visit a Sopharma community pharmacy, which may include compounding services

APPE Assignment: develop a floor plan for the new Stone & Compass clinic and the potential workflow for optimal interprofessional patient care.

Day 2: Visit Phytopharma

Day 3: Visit the honeybee farm and opportunity to work in the Stone & Compass herbal gardens and develop organic medicines

Day 4: Visit the veterinarian clinic and/or psychiatric hospital

Explore the farmer’s market during the weekend

Travel to Plovdiv

Week 4
Plovdiv/Varna, Bulgaria

Museum of Pharmacy
Plovdiv Pharmacy University and Medical University
Work with students and/or faculty to learn about pharmacy education in Bulgaria and laboratory testing of medications.

Travel to Varna on Day 4 or 5
Visit the Medical University of Varna

Week 5

Meet w/Terapia Pharma in Bucharest

  • Terapia is the largest generic pharmaceutical company in Romania and is a subsidiary of Sun Pharma

Meet with Medical University in Bucharest
Visit a farm that is producing plants for natural pharmaceuticals

Week 6

Meet with university professors to discuss the differences between Eastern and Western learning.

Connect with MIS Pharmacy and ECZANE Pharmacy to look at how Turkey controls and distributes certain drugs.

Meet with pharmacists to look at the differences between pharmacies in the USA and Turkey Travel through herbal markets

Travel to Serbia


Day1: Farm Day
Visit to Bojan’s Farm and learn about bees, try local food, learn about truffles and truffles dogs. Visit Avala if the weather is nice.

Day 2: Visit to University of Belgrade
The University of Belgrade is a public research university in Belgrade, Serbia. It is the oldest and largest modern university in Serbia. Founded in 1808 as the Belgrade Higher School in revolutionary Serbia, by 1838 it merged with the Kragujevac-based departments into a single university.

Day 3: City Tour
Belgrade Castle Tour
The Belgrade Fortress, consists of the old citadel and Kalemegdan Park on the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, in an urban area of modern Belgrade

War museum
The Military Museum is a museum located in Belgrade, Serbia. Founded in 1878, the museum has over 3,000 ancient and modern items. These include Roman swords and helmets, Greek helmets and daggers, Serbian heavy knight’s armor, axes, shields, helmets, crossbows, armored gloves, as well as Western medieval weapons.


Depart on return flight to the United States.
