We will take a flight leaving mid-morning to early afternoon from Boston’s Logan Airport to Kilimanjaro International Airport. There is a 7 to an 8 hour time difference so we plan to arrive in Tanzania the following day. We will immediately go to our accommodations at the Mountain Bike House Eco Lodge located about 45 minutes from the airport.
On our first day we will head to Materuni which is the home of the Chagga tribe and is still an authentic tribal village. This charming region is just 15km away from Moshi Town and is the last village before the Kilimanjaro National Park. First, you will visit the incredible waterfalls, which are around a 40-minute walk away and make sure to bring a bathing suit! Next, the complete coffee experience awaits you. Here you will learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted and further processed. You will also be invited to help with the grinding of the coffee, which is traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances. After a long, full day, we will travel back to the lodge for a relaxing evening
We will take a short bus ride to the Simbas Community Center and get a chance to meet the local team and get a tour of the center and the surrounding area. Then you will head to a traditional lunch at Maembe before returning to Simbas Community Center to meet the kids and participate in an arts day with the Tanzanian students. Activities may include arts and crafts, dance and music, or painting walls/murals.
Early wake up call as you will be picked up at your lodge in Moshi at 7:00am and to be transferred to the Tarangire National Park to start off your game viewing experience. This magnificent park is famous for its large collection of baobab trees, spectacular large mammal population, and variety of bird species, not to mention one of the largest concentration of elephants in the country. After the tour around the park, you will be transferred to your tented camp where you will be spending the night.
Another early wakeup to start your safari at 7:00 am. You will head to Serengeti National Park to kick off day two of your safari. You will pass by a traditional Maasai Boma along the way to experience the ways of life of the Maasai people. Entering the Serengeti at around noon, you will spend the rest of your afternoon exploring its world-renowned endless plains in search of one of the greatest wildlife spectacles in the world, the great annual migration. After your game drive, you will be taken to your tented camp/lodge where you will be spending the night.
Today you will spend the whole day exploring the amazing variety of mammals, birds, and reptile species the park has to offer and along with the breathtaking scenery and sunsets. After your tour of the park, you will be transferred to your tented camp/lodge where you will be spending the night.
Today you will have an early start as you head to the Ngorongoro Crater to explore the last but not least amazing part of your tour. The Ngorongoro Crater is one of the few areas in Tanzania where you can find such a breathtaking blend of scenery and wildlife coupled with a fascinating historical and cultural element. The crater is not only the largest unbroken caldera in the world but it is also one of the new 7 natural wonders of Africa. After your morning game drive, you will take a break to enjoy your packed lunch at the Hippo Pool Picnic site. After lunch, you will be transferred back to the Mountain Bike House in Moshi.
