Here you will have a welcome circle with a brief mindfulness practice to meet others in the group and set intentions for our time together. A home cooked dinner will follow, with plenty of time to unwind and begin to enter into the beautiful surroundings.
Accommodation: Pink Flamingo Lodge
The day will begin with a gentle yoga session before heading into town to experience life in the villages of Tanzania. You will be guided through the local market to get a taste of the richness of foods and flavors of Tanzanian cuisine. After this you will arrive at a local home to learn the traditional cooking methods of the Chagga tribe. Have you ever made coconut milk from scratch? Well, here’s your chance! Try your hand at all of the local methods of cooking, and end your experience digging into a tasty meal with your new friends.
Accommodation: Pink Flamingo Lodge
After a grounding morning yoga flow and breakfast in the bush in Kwa Sadala, and a workshop to learn about Maasai Medicine, will gather into our safari car to begin the trek to the National Parks. As we enjoy the drive to Karatu we will stop for some cultural experiences along the way. We will arrive to the safari lodge for meditation and/or yoga as the sun sets.
* Depending on the day’s schedule, each evening at our safari lodges there will be opportunities for evening activities such as sunset yoga, guided meditation, a fireside chat, Massai beading workshops, and expressive journaling options. Take time each evening to internalize your day and begin to explore all of the facets of healing that you would like to achieve.
Accommodation: Ngorongoro Farm House
Rise early for a sunrise game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater. Some have called it the Garden of Eden. there is no other place like it on Earth. You will have a chance to see the Big 5!
A meditation and a stretch at lunchtime will help us as we get back into the cars to transfer to Serengeti National Park. Once in the Serengeti, we will take a leisurely game drive to the lodge. Here there are so many possibilities for animal viewing.
We will arrive to the lodge before sunset for yoga and a journaling session to fully capture our emotions of the first 2 days of safari.
Accommodation: Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge
We have all day to explore the Serengeti! The group and our guide will decide how best to spend this day (for instance, an early morning drive with a bush breakfast…and back to the lodge for the heat of the day, OR full day drive and back to the lodge for sunset)
Accommodation: Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge
We will take a full day game drive in the Serengeti, rising early for sunrise meditation, and hopping into the cars to see if we can view the animals as they rise in the morning. Breakfast this day will be out in the bush, your quintessential “bush breakfast”. We will arrive back at the lodge for afternoon/evening mindfulness activities.
Accommodation: Kubu Kubu Tented Lodge
One more opportunity for animal viewing awaits as we drive from the Serengeti to Lake Eyasi Eyasi, the home of the Hadzabe tribe, one of the most famous hunting tribes in Tanzania.
Accommodation: Ziwani Lodge
If you would like to take this opportunity to join the Hadzabe as they take their morning hunt, you would do this now. It is not an experience that everyone will want to have, as this is their livelihood and you will be joining a real and true hunting trip for the tribesmen to find their daily bread. A leisurely morning at Ziwani is also a fantastic option.
We will transfer to West Kili for the retreat portion of our experience.
*This day will include lots of driving. We will stop a few times along the way for mindfulness breaks, quick stretches, and cultural connection.
Accommodation: Africa Amini Maasai Lodge
Wake to the sun rising over Mt. Kilimanjaro and know that you have fully arrived for your healing and wellness experience. This day will be a day to rest from the safari, settle your mind, experience additional healing opportunities such as energy healing or massage. Options for 1 or 2 yoga and meditation experiences throughout the day. End the day with a traditional Maasai dance and a fireside chat to learn more about Maasai culture.
Accommodation: Africa Amini Maasai Lodge
Take your healing out into the world and use this day to interact with some people from around the village of West Kilimanjaro. Perhaps you would like to experience a nature walk and bush breakfast, or visit a local family for lunch.
Additional activities include a nature walk led by a Maasai guide, energy work, and massage.
We will close our retreat with a closing circle wishing each other many blessings as you take this transformation back to your home, your family and friends, allowing all of your cultivated love and kindness to ripple out into your community. What you will have created will be beautiful, what you will have excavated is your truest self.
